A 2.8 Million-Mile Journey Packed with Discoveries

Since launching from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on January 15, 2025, Blue Ghost has:

  • Traveled: Over 2.8 million miles
  • Data Collected: 27+ GB transmitted
  • Record-Breaking Navigation: First GNSS tracking at 246,000 miles with the Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment
  • Radiation Research: Conducted experiments on computing tolerance through the Van Allen Belts
  • Magnetic Field Analysis: Used the Lunar Magnetotelluric Sounder to study space environment variations

Testing Future Technologies in Lunar Conditions

During surface operations, the NASA instruments will demonstrate:

  • Lunar subsurface drilling technology
  • Regolith sample collection capabilities
  • Radiation-tolerant computing
  • Lunar dust mitigation methods
  • Global navigation satellite system tracking

Before mission completion, teams will capture imagery of the lunar sunset and study lunar dust behavior under solar influences, a phenomenon first documented by Apollo 17 astronaut Eugene Cernan.
